The view from Katah Events: COVID 19 and UK events

How has COVID-19 affected us at Katah Events?

As with everything else, COVID-19 had turned the events industry upside down in just a short few months. Where we would normally be out on the road with our crew in the middle of a busy season of weddings, corporate events, parties and festivals, our tipi hire HQ in Oxfordshire has been rather more quiet.

It’s been difficult seeing our clients’ plans be disrupted, but we’ve worked flexibly with all of our partners and clients to postpone their events to brighter times.

What’s more, we’re able to respond to new ways of thinking about outdoor events in light of the need to consider wellbeing, spaciousness and fresh air.

At Katah Events, we are lucky because we are one of the UK’s most well established tipi companies with decades’ experience of outdoor events. We love being part of a dynamic industry, though, and value working with independent suppliers who have a unique vision, so we want to see everyone come out of the other side of this.

COVID-19 and outdoor weddings

With the plans of so many couples disrupted, many are turning to micro-weddings to celebrate their special day in line with the new limitations 2020 has seen. This means smaller, intimate affairs which really celebrate bonds with our closest friends and families. Single tipis are therefore proving extremely popular for smaller, spur-of-the-moment weddings.

The desire to hold wedding parties in the great outdoors is clearly driving many couples to explore tipi weddings. We are planning a tipi event space in Oxfordshire that will be available to hire for weddings, parties and other events in August and September. Stay tuned for more information.

We are proud to be a founding member of the Association for British Wedding Businesses. There has been great leadership in the events industry from key players which has led to cooperation and collaboration, with an emphasis on diversity in the industry, and we look forward to working together with our colleagues in the industry so we can all continue creating spectacular events for our clients.

What does COVID-19 mean for outdoor business events?

Trade shows and corporate showcases have been badly hit by the crisis and we have worked closely with our corporate partners to postpone plans until 2021.

As with all events, many businesses are considering how they can make use of additional space to allow social distancing. Pubs and restaurants are interested in tipis to create more dining spaces, and many industries are considering outdoor exhibitions of the kind the events industry have been holding for decades.

The bottom line is that companies are adapting. One of the many wonderful things about the UK events industry is its responsiveness.

Because of our convenient location (just off of the M40 near Oxford) we are ideally located for corporate clients interested in tipi hire in Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas, though we regularly work from the Highlands down to the South Coast too.

If you’re a business looking to adapt your way of working and you’re considering how much of an asset a tipi might be, we’d love to discuss your situation.

COVID-19 and music events

Festivals are cultural lifeblood in the UK, and we are proud to work at many of the UK’s best. While we are likely to see a period of evolution and adaptation, the festivals that we know and love will endure. And Katah Events will be here to continue creating wonderful spaces for people to enjoy.
